MSC:

MSC is a non profit organization that protects seafood and overfishing. MSP stands for: Marine stewardship council. MSC works with stores and restaurants to change the way the oceans are being fished and to stop food fraud.

The MSC goal is to create sustainable fisheries, influence how people buy seafood, and to help keep a healthy ocean. Albert Heijn is the leader of this group.

Oceana:

Oceana was founded in 2001 and has a goal to restore and make Canada’s oceans rich again after the affects of overfishing. Oceana offices are found all over the world including Canada. These offices work in their home region to educate the public about unsustainable fishing and destructive fishing.

Why these two groups?

I chose Oceana and MSC for the following reasons:

  1. MSC works with stores, restaurants, and other seafood companies to sustain the production of overfishing and the seafood business.
  2. Oceana works out of multiple countries and educates local people about overfishing and how to help.
  3. MSC certifies seafood and fishing management.
  4. Oceana works with the government and Indigenous Peoples to help the oceans and fish return to health.
  5. MSC uses their blue tag logo to identify sustainable seafood at stores and at fisheries.
