Biomass Affecting Local Rivers.

By

Dear Editor,

I think that that Airex Energy Inc. needs be shut down because it is at risk of polluting the St. Lawrence River, which is also affected by highly toxic pesticides (i.e.  glyphosate, atrazine and neonicotinoids). It should be shut down because the St. Lawrence River is such a huge body of water that supports an abundance of aquatic life.

Massive amounts of water that are released back into the river after being used for biomass, have a drastic temperature change. The change in temperature causes disruptions in the ecosystem. With a such a change, the dissolved oxygen levels in the water decreases, limiting the fish’s oxygen.

Biomass plants requires lots of space, which is used up by land and water. Biomass crops need water to help produce, grow, and then be stored in after. That can take up a tremendous amount of water.

The mixture of biomass pollution and pesticide pollution in the St. Lawrence River can cause a huge toxic build up in the water. This puts the aquatic life at a bigger risk of health problems, as well as humans because it causes higher contamination levels.

Those are just a few reasons why the Airex Energy Inc. should be shut down in my opinion along with other biomass plants. It is too much of a risk for our environment. Not only does it pollute the water but it pollutes the air too. Thank you for your time.
