Culminating Task #1 – Action Plan

“We have some very suggestive evidence that the use of pesticides and herbicides affects our mental function and brain physiology, including increasing the incidence of Parkinson’s disease up to seven times in those most heavily exposed to them. This is not exactly a surprise when we realize that pesticides are designed to be neurotoxic to the pests.”

The issue at hand is that pesticides used in farming are leaking into our ecosystem. The safety within the water and the organisms living around it are in danger because of the chemicals being used. In fact, you may be too! We can’t wait around for this problem to fix itself and we can’t wait for it to get more dangerous. we must do something now, and fast!

The Goal

The goal we are trying to achieve is how we can stop the use of toxic chemical pesticides from leaking into our waters. This problem is very severe because there is no turning back. The only way we can fix this is by stopping now! We have to do something so the goal is to raise awareness, ban toxic chemical pesticides and help give clean drinking water to the communities in need.

The First Few Weeks

On day one we will begin reaching out to the people in our local town to help raise awareness on the effects of pesticides. We will begin by starting by hiring high school volunteers to go around to farms and handing around papers with a short piece of information. This information will include what is in pesticides and their effects on the ecosystems. The message we want to begin to convey is how Chemical pesticides are known to pollute the environment and how studies have shown that chemical pesticides linger in the atmosphere, the ground, and in our waterways long after the job is over. This focus is what we want the people to begin to think about.

During later weeks we will begin to start making more interviews on television and supplying more commercials. Considering that Autumn Peltier is a well-known activist she would be a great example of someone who can raise awareness with her supporters.

NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council ) is fighting in court against agrochemical giants, as well as against government agencies that aren’t doing their job to protect human health and the environment.  We will support that fight and raise awareness.

Natural Resources Defense Council

Another very well supportive team we need on our side to support is Earth Justice.

These three people I have selected was because they each have a large support system. Therefore, we can use the supporters to raise awareness.  Doing so will help us become a team that wants one thing…to get clean, pesticide-free water!

Long Term Goals

We will promote new eco-friendly ways to control pesticides.

We will begin supporting Earth Justice. org which is a campaign working to donate and support people really being affected by pesticide chemicals.

Earthjustice. (2019). Earthjustice. https://earthjustice.org/‌

Earth Justice is only asking for a small donation of 5$ or more to help. They look at the future and a way to save our home. Earth Justice wants people to notice what is happening saying “Do you prefer strawberries harvested without cancer-causing fumigants, tomatoes without organochlorines, green beans free of fungicides that could cause reproductive deformities? So do we. Earthjustice legal work resulted in each of these highly toxic chemicals banned or withdrawn.”

We can have titles like Pesticides don’t solve pest problems and talk about Indoor pollution from pesticides and the oceans. lakes and waters being affected. With this, we can include descriptions about the impacts and the solution to ban dangerous chemicals in pesticides.

When people know that pesticides don’t solve problems, we wouldn’t be repeatedly using them now.

According to the USDA. Even after peeling and washing fruits and veggies, about 60 percent of our products still contain more than one pesticide.

They are hazardous and we need to be doing something therefore, approximately every three months, we will send newsletters to our many subscribers to inform them about what is going on in the world of water and our charity!

Exposure to some pesticides during infancy, even at very low levels, can lead to serious life-long consequences if the pesticides disrupt hormone-driven developmental processes.

– Charles Benbrook

Toxins are invading our lives. The European Union (EU) regulates pesticides more tightly than Canada or the U.S. In 2003, there was a ban on atrazine in Europe due to health and safety concerns and the pollution of water sources. Despite the ban in Europe, it is still widely used in the U.S. and Canada today. So, why are we not doing anything considering all the lives being put at risk?
