Ecological issues with ‘Coal mining in South Africa

The environment takes a big impact from the huge waste dumps caused by coal washing. These waste dumps are known for spontaneously igniting and can causes large amounts of air pollution. Abandoned mines and waste dumps can also cause water pollution when rain or water find them. However, the biggest problem tp the enviorment with the coal mines is when the combustion of coal comes domestically.

When a mine is stared the clearing of trees, plants and top soil destroy the forest and natural wildlife habitats. This also causes soil erosion and flooding, causing the dust in to stir up and can cause respiratory problems in near by communities.

The problem with coal mining in the eyes of the indigenous is that your not looking out for the next 7 generations. The amount of pollution burning coal atone causes 46% of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide and amounts for 72% of total greenhouse gas (GHG).

Effects of coal mining may include;

Removal of vegetation, distortion of environment, cause it people to leave their homes, sinkholes, groundwater and surface water by chemicals emitted by the mining process and more.
