Member’s in My Community Saving Borneo
ByThe deforestation in Borneo is becoming more severe then ever before. There are many problems arising due to the deforestation in Borneo. If the island continues its current deforestation rate, the country will be severely affected by climate change. There will be an increase in floods, forest fires, negative human health impacts, changes in agricultural, and damage to the biodiversity of the ecosystem. The tropical deforestation is creating a clear risk that hundreds of species could become extinct.
After doing research about this major global issue, I was able to find two groups, both of which are extremely passionate about the ecological issue. Greenpeace Canada is passionate about this cause and is a useful source of information. Greenpeace is a network supported by 2.8 million individuals worldwide. The network has 27 independent national and regional organizations across the globe, covering operations in more than 55 countries. The organization promotes and uses non-violent, creative action to promote a greener, healthier, and more peaceful world.

The reason I chose to look into this organization and select them to be a part of my team is because of their platform. Greenpeace has a positive yet impactful platform. “Today, Greenpeace is the world’s most visible environmental organization, with offices in more than 55 countries and millions of financial supporters worldwide.” Meaning, if I partner up with this organization, word would rapidly spread, hopefully creating a stronger impact toward to stop the deforestation in Borneo.
They are against deforestation and the use of palm oil. Greenpeace Canada plans on taking action by protesting against deforestation to raise awareness of the issue.

The second organization I found to help me develop a plan to address the deforestation issue in Borneo is, Inter Pares. This is a Canadian organization located in Ottawa, Ontario. Inter Pares was founded in 1975, “on a commitment to address conflict and injustice in Canada and around the world.” The organization’s name means, “among equals” to reflect their belief in the equality of people and our environment. They plan on taking action in Borneo to provide fairness to both the people and the land.
The reason I selected Inter Pares, was because of their positive and very strong platform. This organization encourages all Canadians to take action is creating equality in our world, and this would help give me the support and guidance I need to take action and address this severe ecological issue.
