SOIL EROSION IN HAITI

An estimated 15000 acres of topsoil are washed away each year in Haiti due to deforestation. Erosion due to deforestation is an on-going battle Haitians are facing as 70% of them rely on agriculture for there livelihood. With this only 30% of the land is good for cultivation. Haiti has a very dry and dessert like ecosystem where the deforestation is taking place. The soil is becoming dry and useless with more exposer to the sun. The deforestation is driven by small scale farming, charcoal production, corrupt business practices and irresponsible regulations. The deforestation is not only causing erosion but is disrupting the entire world.
