Elements of Concern When it Comes to Mercury Poisoning

You may ask, how does knowing certain elements help us understand more about ecological issues? Well, chemistry is everywhere, and even knowing about certain elements will help us understand more about why ecological issues are a big thing and why it’s happening.

Elements that are of concern when it comes to mercury in water systems that cause fish to give humans mercury poisoning is obviously, number one mercury. Other elements that are of concern are things like oxygen and hydrogen.

Mercury

Mercury, its symbol being Hg is a chemical element. This element is highly toxic. This chemical element is very dangerous because it (liquid form) can vaporize at room temperatures, which makes it easy to get in organisms systems. I chose mercury as an element of concern because this is the element causing problems, its the one poisoning humans and other creatures.

Hydrogen + Oxygen

Hydrogen, its symbol being H is non toxic. Oxygen, its symbol being O. These two elements I think are a concern because when you have two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen molecules you get H2O a.k.a water. Water brings all this together, because water is the reason why mercury is getting into fish and then into humans.
